European Commission launches global coalition for biodiversity

On Tuesday 3 March, at the Oceanographic Museum, the European Commission announced the launch of a global coalition for biodiversity, in the presence of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco, Virginijus Sinkevicius, European Commissioner for the Environment, Oceans and Fisheries and Inger Andersen, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme

With this campaign, the Commission is calling on all national parks, aquariums, botanical gardens, zoos, science museums and natural history museums to join forces and step up their efforts to raise public awareness of the need to protect biodiversity. The Oceanographic Institute of Monaco is the first institution to join the coalition.

This new campaign follows the one launched in 2017 by the European Commission, at the Museum, entitled The event was called“World aquariums ready to change to beat plastic pollution” and brought together more than 200 aquariums in 41 countries to raise awareness of marine litter issues worldwide.
