European Week for Waste Reduction

at the Oceanographic Museum

The Principality of Monaco committed

Back on the actions carried out during this week of waste reduction, from 16 to 24 November 2019: the Museum had organized workshops to encourage the youngest to the importance of reducing their production of waste and also to adopt the good gestures in selective sorting.

The Monaco Oceanographic Museum also took the opportunity to raise awareness of the fight against pollution at sea!

A friendly and playful moment articulated around 3 animations: a workshop of selective sorting, the stand party without balloons and the “mission pollution”, during which the children and their parents could revise their knowledge in waste and pollution.

Selective sorting workshop

“With the help of recycling bins (plastic, glass, cardboard, textiles, batteries, etc.) placed on the forecourt, the children were able to learn which bins correspond to which waste.

Then, our young participants answered a quiz on sorting and leave with your “Super Sorter” diploma.

the balls must go, not the party

The “Fête sans ballons” stand offered educational activities to explain to youngsters the consequences of balloon releases on the marine environment, and in particular on sea turtles.

Through this initiative, the aim is to raise awareness, inform and find, together, alternatives to balloon releases in favour of environmentally friendly practices.

POLLUTION TASK

The “Mission Pollution” workshop introduces youngsters to the fight against waste at sea. Where does the plastic come from? How does it affect marine animals and what are the practical solutions to the problem?

How to make people want to read a theme page to the end (INTRO)

This introduction should provide an overview: like a journalist, it should contain the 5Ws: who, when, where, why what. It’s a caption.

In a few lines, without doing much more, it is necessary to understand what it is about. Use short and punchy sentences, images if possible conveying emotions with simple words. It is imperative to avoid scientific language and terms unless you are speaking exclusively to a community that has mastered them.

Can we make an intertitle if the intro is a bit long, and even if it is short?

The heading helps to make a long text more dynamic and to reactivate the reader’s interest. In the form of a question, it makes him want to go further. An Internet user can invest time and energy to read content under two conditions:

1) because it is exactly what he is looking for and he thinks he has found it: it meets his expectations, his question, his need at the time

2) because he stumbled upon it by chance and was challenged, interested, harpooned…

In both cases, he will read the first few sentences, then quickly skim the titles and headings to see if they are appropriate. Only then will he read all or part of our text. Hence the importance of catchy but precise titles, frequent headings, illustrations and limited amounts of text.

The highlighting of keywords via the formatting of bold characters, as well as links (preferably to internal resources of the site) are of course pluses for the comfort of reading.

A picture is better than words

Lastly, a well-spaced out layout between the different parts/contents, the use of paragraphs, numbering and bullet lists are very useful.

Large illustrations, in an adequate definition according to size and of very good graphic quality, coherent and relevant to the content, are indispensable today.

Today, the dominant mode of communication is video.

  • Bullet lists are another form of dynamic
  • They allow us to highlight the following points
  • Their use is recommended, when necessary, and if possible with short, punchy sentences
  • no more than 6 chips
Moreover, many features of the website allow a dynamic and/or animated display of content: to be used wisely and with moderation, examples are inserted further down the page.
Mains jointes

Here we can present a kind of summary of the file, with links

For example, a summary on jellyfish might look like this:

The subject in pictures

Add your title text here
