Oceano for all

DONATION CAMPAIGN: ALEX STORM

RAISING AWARENESS AMONG YOUNG PEOPLE

OCEANO For All - Mission accomplished!

After the emergency, the daily difficulties and the stress accumulated since the storm Alex, these last times have not been easy for the inhabitants of the stricken valleys of the Alpes-Maritimes.

It was important to give the children a change of scene by offering them a moment of escape to discover the marine world. For example, the Oceanographic Institute of Monaco has dedicated the 2021 edition of its “Oceano for all” action to the children of the Roya Valley.

The Foundation has launched an appeal for donations to help finance this project. Discover the results of the operation and see you next year for the new edition of Oceano for all!

The objective of collection in favour of the operation ” Oceano for all – special edition storm Alex ” was reached with 57 300€ thanks to the mobilization and the donations of private individuals and companies. Thanks to this impetus, the teams of the Oceanographic Institute welcomed during the month of June several classes from the communes of Breil-sur-Roya, Tende, Saint-Dalmas-de-Tende, La Brigue and Fontan. This educational project, a logistical and human challenge, has thus become a reality for the children of these schools.

The “Oceano for All” adventure ended on Monday, July 5. Laurie PERROT, in charge of projects at the Events Department, went to meet the classes to see how the projects were carried out and to give the children an “Ocean Ambassador” kit to congratulate them on their involvement and commitment to preserving the environment.

About us

What is Oceano Pour Tous ?

“Oceano Pour Tous” is an educational and social action.

In February 2014, the Oceanographic Institute launched the first edition of its “Oceano Pour Tous” project, which at the time was entitled “Snapper pour tous” – in collaboration with the French National Education, the National Education Department of Youth and Sports of Monaco, and with the support of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation.

Objective:

To participate in the creation of ecological awareness in each child by giving access to an awareness program in favor of the Ocean to all students.

This operation is particularly aimed at classes in the Alpes-Maritimes and the Var located in REP and REP + zones (CE2 and cycle 3 classes) as well as localized units for school inclusion (ULIS Schools) and those with disabilities. It is particularly important to the Foundation because of its social dimension, which since 2014 has allowed students in difficulty to gain access to awareness, discovery and learning about the ocean.

On the program:

Children discover the ocean through a visit to the Oceanographic Museum and a privileged access to its backstage. They meet the aquarium’s 6,000 residents and talk to specialists in educational workshops.

To make students aware of the need to protect the ocean.

2020 was marked by the global pandemic but also by natural disasters of rare intensity, proving how closely the sea and the mountains are linked.

It is more necessary than ever to accompany children in terms of understanding current environmental issues and raising awareness of the role that everyone can play in preserving the planet.

While marine ecosystems provide food, regulate our climate and are home to a wide variety of species, the ocean is now under severe strain. It is urgent to protect it.

Participating in the creation of ecological awareness in children is one of the Institute’s fundamental missions, to make each young person a new ambassador for the Ocean.

Oceano Pour Tous allows children to build a collective and creative project while allowing them to discover the world of the Ocean.

What are the steps of the operation Oceano Pour Tous - Alex storm edition ?

After a day of activities and discoveries at the Oceanographic Museum, the students will work on a project (videos, photos, text…) to relay a message in favour of the preservation of marine ecosystems and their biodiversity.

Involved in a collective, creative and committed project, they will share their vision of the Ocean.

The class projects will then be promoted through the Institute’s media and shared with other classes.

What will the donations be used for?

The Institute is appealing for individual donations in order to reinforce the means made available to the children for their participation in the event (transport, overnight stays, various supplies, etc.).

These donations will also make it possible to extend the experience by giving as many classes as possible the opportunity to spend an extra day in the Principality of Monaco and to take advantage of a programme of activities and events.

In the longer term, and depending on the funds raised, “Oceano pour Tous” could extend to the Vésubie and Tinée valleys.
